Radiographic analysis of hip arthroplasty should include:
PARAMETERS | NORMAL |
1. LEG LENGTH | <1 CM |
2. HORIZONTAL CENTER OF ROTATION | =CONTRALATERAL HIP |
3. VERTICAL CENTER OF ROTATION | =CONTRALATERAL HIP |
4. ACETABULAR INCLINATION | 30°–50° |
5. FEMORAL STEM POSITIONING | NEUTRAL TO LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF SHAFT |
6. ACETABULAR ANTEVERSION | 5°–25° |
7. CEMENT MANTLE THICKNESS | 2–3 MM FEMORAL; 3 MM? ACETABULAR |
Complications are “periprosthetic lucencies” (aseptic loosening, infection etc.), “sclerosis/bone proliferation” (heterotopic bone etc.) and “component failure/fracture”.
We recommend a standardized radiological approach, at hospital discharge and 6 weeks and 12 months after surgery, unless pain or clinical symptoms warrant more early investigation [1].
