Radiographic analysis of hip arthroplasty should include:

PARAMETERS NORMAL

1. LEG LENGTH <1 CM
2. HORIZONTAL CENTER OF ROTATION =CONTRALATERAL HIP
3. VERTICAL CENTER OF ROTATION =CONTRALATERAL HIP
4. ACETABULAR INCLINATION 30°–50°
5. FEMORAL STEM POSITIONING NEUTRAL TO LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF SHAFT
6. ACETABULAR ANTEVERSION 5°–25°
7. CEMENT MANTLE THICKNESS 2–3 MM FEMORAL; 3 MM? ACETABULAR

Complications are “periprosthetic lucencies” (aseptic loosening, infection etc.), “sclerosis/bone proliferation” (heterotopic bone etc.) and “component failure/fracture”.

We recommend a standardized radiological approach, at hospital discharge and 6 weeks and 12 months after surgery, unless pain or clinical symptoms warrant more early investigation [1].
